Week 1 - Response to Content

Old communication technology is analogue and new is digital. Moors law states that technology doubles every 18 months so it would appear that as per this law everything I own is old technology; from my 4 year OLD television to my 3 year OLD mobile and my 2 year OLD eye pod. Although I no longer own anything analogue, with the constant changing of technology as soon as a new model of digital communication is released the previous is soon to be upgraded to keep up with the times.

The main issues in new communications technology are cyber bullying, computer hacking, misinformation, online gambling and National Broadband Network.

Hacking is of great concern as it links in with even greater concerns such as the right each and every one of us have to privacy. When information gets into the wrong hands it can lead to identity theft. I saw a case on the news just a couple of weeks ago where a man's identity had been stolen and the thief had taken out a mortgage in this man's name. He had bought him a house in a neighbourhood that he'd never been to and a house that he hadn't seen.
Computer hacking is on the rise and not even our Prime Minister is safe from this invasion of privacy. In March it was reported that hackers managed to hack into Parliament House computers to obtain information from numerous ministers including PM Julia Gillard's email(ABC Premium News 2011, p.1) accounts. A suspect mentioned that foreign intelligence agencies to be possible culprits for the hacking incident.
